Charting your own course

I've had a number of clients recently who have been taking this turn in the economy to update their resume and prepare themselves for promotions or transfers within their current companies. It's not a bad strategy.

During times of financial upheaval, it's not uncommon for companies to undergo change. Managers will tell you how positive it is. "Change is good!" This may work until the time of transition results in people being laid off or their department reorganized and they're left behind.

This could be the best time to prepare yourself. Update your resume whether it's just in case of a layoff or maybe on the positive side, it's in the event of a promotion. As the old saying goes, "Be prepared!"
